Regenerate Your Vision With Macular Degeneration Surgery
Macular degeneration is a common disease of old age. It primarily occurs during middle age. It is a gradual infection of the gradual infection. The retina is the portion of the eyes which has the responsibility to refract light. It is physiologically located at the pupil and the iris of the eyes. The macula is composed of cells that are sensitive to light. It is located in the middle of the retina. Macular degeneration then becomes a problem when the photoreceptor cells inside the macular do not refract light.
Age has been the general cause of this disease. However in extreme cases it can still penetrate the vision of younger patients. This type of case is called the juvenile macular degeneration disease. This then becomes a concern that macular degeneration can be caused by the environment.
Most doctors encourage their patients to protect their eyes from the harmful effects of radiation. Sunglasses are recommended to prevent your eyes from the extreme rays of the sun. Air pollution can have a negative effect on vision. So it is important to be aware of these factors.
There are two types of macular degeneration. Both can cause impaired vision when left untreated. The dry degenerated macular disease occurs when the transport of essential nutrients needed by the retina are blocked by a yellowish or white deposits, called drusen, form on the retina beneath the macula, causing it to deteriorate or degenerate over time. Unfortunately, at this time, there are no treatments for dry macular disease. However, there are a number of clinical trials underway. The best way to deal with it is through preventive measures.
The wet macular disease occurs when abnormal blood vessels grow behind the macula as RPE and photoreceptor cells die. These vessels are very fragile and can leak fluid and blood. Wet age related macular disease can be treated. Injections of angiogenesis inhibitors into the eye, with photodynamic therapy or with laser surgery. None of these methods will cure wet macular disease but each may slow the rate of vision decline or stop further vision loss.
